Waukegan, IL (October 26, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized in critical condition following a violent T-bone collision that caused major vehicle damage on Lewis Avenue Saturday morning. According to the Waukegan Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:56 a.m. near the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Ballentine Street, prompting a swift response from emergency personnel.
Police and firefighters arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles: a silver Chevrolet pickup truck and a white Nissan SUV stopped in the middle of the roadway. Based on preliminary findings, the Chevrolet appeared to have been struck on its passenger side by the front end of the Nissan, consistent with a T-bone or side-impact collision. Both vehicles suffered extensive front-end and side damage, leaving debris scattered across the intersection.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Craig Neal reported that the driver of the Chevrolet was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where they were listed in critical but stable condition. The driver of the Nissan was also taken to the same facility with critical but stable injuries. A passenger inside the Nissan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan for evaluation and treatment.
Authorities also interviewed witnesses and began collecting data to determine what led to the high-impact crash. Officials have not yet released details about what caused the vehicles to collide. However, investigators are examining several possible contributing factors, including speed, failure to yield, and distracted driving.
Our thoughts are with the victims injured in this collision, and we wish them strength and a full recovery during this difficult time.
T-Bone Collisions in Lake County and Legal Support for Crash Victims
T-bone collisions, also known as side-impact crashes, are among the most dangerous types of roadway accidents. These crashes often occur at intersections, when one vehicle fails to yield or runs a red light, striking the side of another car at high speed. In communities like Waukegan, where many intersections see steady traffic flow, the risk of severe side-impact collisions remains high.
The force of impact in T-bone crashes frequently leads to catastrophic injuries, including head trauma, internal bleeding, spinal damage, and broken bones. Because the sides of vehicles offer less protection than the front or rear, occupants, especially those seated on the side of impact, are particularly vulnerable. Victims may face long-term rehabilitation, multiple surgeries, and significant financial stress due to lost wages and medical expenses.
When driver negligence contributes to such accidents, victims and their families may have the right to pursue compensation through a personal injury claim. Compensation can cover medical bills, lost earnings, property damage, and pain and suffering. Establishing fault often requires careful investigation, gathering crash scene evidence, analyzing vehicle damage patterns, reviewing traffic camera footage, and interviewing witnesses.
