Gurnee, IL (February 3, 2026) – Two people were injured on Monday, February 2, following a series of incidents in the parking lots near the Gurnee Mills shopping center. Emergency units responded to the scene around 10:05 a.m. after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian near a local craft store.
Authorities report that a 2010 Toyota Camry was traveling through a parking aisle when it hit a 79-year-old man standing near his vehicle. The car then continued out of the aisle and struck a 60-year-old woman.
Emergency personnel arrived and moved the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center with serious injuries. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of an ankle injury.
The driver reportedly fled the initial scene and stopped in a nearby parking lot less than 1,000 feet away. There, a physical altercation occurred between the driver and a man in another vehicle. During the struggle, the man sustained cuts to his hands before emergency units arrived to take the 25-year-old female driver into custody.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts remain with those affected as they continue to receive care and recover from their injuries.
How Can a Lawyer Assist With Insurance After a Crash in Gurnee?
A pedestrian accident lawyer can clarify how insurance coverage applies when a person is injured as a pedestrian or during a multi-stage incident. Insurance policies often contain complex language regarding hit-and-run scenarios and uninsured motorist coverage. When an accident occurs in a busy commercial area, multiple insurance carriers may be involved, including those for the drivers and potentially the property. A lawyer helps by identifying all applicable policies and ensuring that deadlines for filing claims are met.
Pedestrian accidents frequently result in severe injuries that require extensive medical care, such as surgeries, physical therapy, and long-term monitoring. These treatments lead to significant medical bills that can be difficult for families to manage while the victim is unable to work.
In Illinois, the insurance process involves determining liability and evaluating the total impact of the injuries on a person’s life. Without professional guidance, it can be difficult to know if an insurance company’s initial assessment accurately reflects the long-term costs of recovery.
Legal professionals handle the task of gathering evidence and communicating directly with insurance adjusters. This includes securing the official crash report, obtaining witness statements, and reviewing any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
By managing these administrative and technical details, an attorney allows the injured person to focus entirely on their medical treatment. They can also explain the difference between various types of compensation and help a person understand their eligibility for recovery based on the facts of the case.
